BAMS Festival 2025

Griswold Art Tour
The Griswold Inn. 36 Main Street, Essex, CT 06426
The Griswold Inn is home to one of the finest private marine art collections in the country, with museum-quality paintings and artifacts displayed throughout the historic property. Originally built over generations by the Ladd/Lovell Family, the collection continues to grow under the stewardship of the Paul Family, who have cared for the Inn for more than 30 years.
Due to growing guest interest in the stories behind the artwork, The Griswold Inn introduced guided art tours led by co-owner and innkeeper Geoffrey Paul, whose passion and deep knowledge bring the collection vividly to life. Held seasonally and open to the public, these tours combine history, storytelling, and art in a uniquely engaging experience that has earned rave reviews from visitors and local historic groups alike.
Guests frequently praise the tours as informative, entertaining, and filled with fascinating historical insights — with many returning more than once. Additional public tours are planned for the fall, while private group tours paired with brunch, lunch, or dinner experiences are also available.

The Great Race - Warwick RI to Fargo ND
Rocky Point State Park Warwick, RI 02889
Classic cars from around the world will converge in Warwick’s Rocky Point State Park to begin The Great Race, a nine-day, 2,300-mile adventure across 10 states. Spectators will be able to visit with race participants and check out the 120 vintage automobiles before they head out, one second apart, on the rally. All cars were built in 1974 and earlier; most were manufactured before World War II. The oldest autos in this year’s event, which culminates in Fargo, N.D., include a 1916 Hudson Pikes Peak Hillclimber, a 1917 American LaFrance and a 1917 Peerless racer. Each car has a driver and a navigator, who are given precise instructions each day that detail every move down to the second, confirmed by secret checkpoints along the way. The race itself will start in Warwick on June 18th at 8 a.m.

Festival of Illumination 2022 - Once Upon a Time
Southwick Zoo - 2 Southwick Street Mendon, MA 01756 Fairytales, myths and legends come alive in spectacular fashion at the Festival of Illumination at Southwick’s Zoo, where this year’s theme is “Once Upon a Time.” Take an epic journey through these magical stories, told through the incredible artistry of handcrafted Chinese lanterns, lit with LED lights. Starting Sept. 1, the creations from the Zigong Lantern Group will take you into a fantasy world in New England’s largest and premier lantern showcase. Then, on Nov. 25, the festival becomes a drive-through experience with the addition of Winter Wonderland, a holiday light spectacular that also features Santa’s Village and live entertainment. Right next door to the zoo, visitors can dine at Galliford’s Restaurant & Tavern, a full-service, year-round restaurant offering classic comfort food and other specialties.

The collection of over fifty vehicles includes one of the world’s finest assemblages of Packards, and highlights American Classics such as Duesenbergs, V-16 Cadillac, Stutz, Graham-Paige, and Auburn 12; foreign Classics such as Delahaye, Isotta Fraschini, Hispano-Suiza, Mercedes-Benz and Alfa-Romeo; and an eclectic grouping of brass-era cars (including two electric cars), a Tucker, a Harley-Davidson and later-model sports cars. New Haven Museum: "It's Pronounced Ah-beetz" Exhibition Opening
New Haven Museum 114 Whitney Avenue, New Haven, CT 06510The New Haven Museum (NHM) will open a new free-admission exhibit titled “Pronounced Ah-Beetz”, exploring the history, culture, and legacy of New Haven-style apizza.
The exhibit traces pizza’s origins from Italy’s working-class food to its rise in New Haven, highlighting the city’s “Big 3” iconic pizzerias — Frank Pepe’s Pizzeria Napoletana, Sally’s Apizza, and Modern Apizza — and how they became national favorites. It will also showcase other local pizzerias such as Ernie’s, Zuppardi’s, BAR, Zeneli’s, Olde World, and the Big Green Pizza Truck, portraying the deep ties between family, food, and community.
Co-curated by Jason Bischoff-Wurstle (NHM), and Gorman Bechard, Dean Falcone, and Colin M. Caplan — the team behind the documentary “Pizza, A Love Story” — the exhibit features:
- Artifacts, oral histories, and memorabilia from local collections.
- Video footage from the documentary.
- Replicas of the “Big 3” pizzerias, complete with a realistic brick oven.
- Short histories of Foxon Park Soda and locally served beers
The idea originated in 2009 during the making of the documentary, with Caplan recognized as the main historian of New Haven pizza. Recently, following a trip to Washington, D.C., where Representative Rosa DeLauro declared New Haven the “Pizza Capital of the U.S.”, the curators expanded the project with new materials.
The exhibit’s title, “Pronounced Ah-Beetz,” reflects the authentic New Haven pronunciation of apizza (from Italian la pizza). It will be on display through October 2027.

Martine Gutierrez Unveils Monumental New Installation at Worcester Art Museum

The Worcester Art Museum has commissioned acclaimed interdisciplinary artist Martine Gutierrez to create First Revelation of the Sovereign Queen, the newest installation in its renowned Wall at WAM series.
Opening September 23, 2026, the large-scale photographic work will transform the Museum's 67-foot Renaissance Court wall, drawing inspiration from religious art throughout WAM's collection while weaving together themes of identity, spirituality, heritage, and self-expression. Blending photography, performance, handcrafted sets, and original costumes, Gutierrez reimagines historical symbols through a contemporary lens.
To celebrate the installation, visitors are invited to a special After Hours event with the artist on September 25, followed by an Artist Talk on September 27, where Gutierrez will discuss the inspiration and creative process behind the work.
The installation will remain on view for two years, continuing the Worcester Art Museum's tradition of bringing contemporary artists into conversation with its historic collection.

Parading to Tanglewood: A Sunrise Gathering at Bousquet Mountain
101 Dan Fox Dr, Bousquet Mountain Pittsfield, MA 01201Welcome the sunrise with world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma as We The People Week begins atop Bousquet Mountain. This unique community gathering features live music, spoken word performances, Indigenous cultural contributions, and live art from local and regional artists. Guests can hike or take the chairlift to the summit, where they'll experience a memorable sunrise celebration followed by coffee, pastries, and conversation with neighbors. After the event, participants are invited to join a community seed-planting activity at Roots Rising's Farm & Education Center.
For those choosing to hike, the trail includes a moderate uphill climb of approximately 2/3 mile each way with a 750-foot elevation gain. Participants should wear appropriate footwear and clothing and allow 20–35 minutes to reach the summit. Trail lighting and volunteers will be available to assist hikers along the route.
