You might not think visual artists would dare to depict the lakes and mountains of New Hampshire in paint and pencil; the magnificence of the subject is so overwhelming. Ask your innkeeper or host to spin out stories of mountain excursions, the lives and times of loggers; the daily trappings of fishing families on lakes and sea. You’ll see plenty of images of the Old Man in the Mountain, a rocky profile created by nature that now lives on only on canvas, paper and in memory.
